The Disease Detective
Jane is one of the experts at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. People at the Center study how diseases start and spread and, as the name shows, try to control and prevent diseases. We asked Jane about her work.
J: Well, I have to be a detective: I go to a place where a
disease has broken out and I look for clues about the
disease, I try to find as much information as I can about
what happened. Who is sick?
What are the signs--do they have a fever, a headache
or a sore throat? When did they get sick? When I have
collected the information, I use it to find out what caused
