　　5.care about与care for

　　care about意为“关心；在乎，在意”。
　　care for意为“喜欢（同feel like）；照顾（同look after）；关心（同care about）。如：
　　Einstein didn’t care about money at all. 爱因斯坦一点也不在乎钱。
　　I don’t really care for tea. 我其实不大喜欢喝茶。
　　She cares for no one. 她谁也不关心。
　　The mother cared for the sick child day and night.
　　母亲日夜照顾生病的孩子。
　　
　　6.situation, state与condition

　　situation意为“情况”、“形式”、“局面”，主要是指各种情况之间的相互关系及该情况与有关人士之间的关系，即强调相互之间的联系和影响。如：
　　the international situation 国际形势 the political situation 政局
　　the present situation 目前形势
　　state意为“状态”，“状况”，常与不定冠词连用，只有单数形式，说明某一种状态或情况，其前要用介词in。如：
　　She is in a good state of mind. 她心情舒畅。
　　At that time, the whole country was in a state of war.
　　那时，整个国家处于战争状态中。
　　condition作“状态”解时与state意义相近，但含有“与周围环境有关”之意。如：
　　He is in no condition to travel. 他的健康状况不宜于旅行。
　　The condition of his health prevented him from working.
　　他的健康状况不允许他继续工作。　
7.except, except for, besides与except that/what/when/why…

　　except表示从全部中排除部分，常与no, all, none, nothing, everything, anything等包含全部的词连用。如：

　　We all came here on time except him.
　　除他以外，我们都准时到了这里。
　　I looked everywhere except in the bathroom.
　　除了浴室，我到处都看了。

　　except for表示从整体中排除部分，前后名词往往不是同类的。如：

　　Your article is well written except for a few spelling mistakes.
　　除了几个拼写错误外，你的文章写的不错。
　　Your dress is ready except for the buttons.
　　你的衣服好了，除了扣子未缝。

　　注意：except与except for有时可以互换，但位于句首时，不用except。

　　besides表示“除……之外还有”，常与also, else, more, another, other等词连用。如：

　　Do you play other games besides tennis?
　　除网球外，你还进行其他运动吗？
　　Besides knowing some Greek she was fluent in Italian.
　　她除了懂些希腊语外，意大利语也说得不错。

　　except that/what/when/why…后接句子，但that在从句中不作成分，what在从句中作名词性成分，when/why等在从句中作状语。如：

　　This suit fits me well except that the trousers are too long.
　　这套衣服很适合我，只是裤子太长。
　　I know nothing about the accident except
        what I read in the newspaper.
        除了在报纸上读过的内容外，我对那个事故一无所知。
　　I understand everything except why you gave up your studies.
　　我一切都明白，只是不理解你为什么要放弃学业。
　　He is a good husband except when he is drinking.
　　他在不喝酒时，是个好丈夫。
　　
　　8.in the future与in future

　　in the future 指将来的时间点或时间段。
　　in future=from now on, 意为“今后”。如：
　　In the future, people may live on the moon.
　　将来人们也许在月球上生活。
　　I hope you’ll be more careful in future
about the things you say.
　　我希望你今后对你说的事要多加小心。
　　
　　9.over, during与for

　　over指“经过或度过一段时间”，强调产生的结果。
　　during指“在……期间”，强调某一时间内的动作或状态。
　　for用于说明动作或状态持续的时间。如：
　　Many things rot away over a long time.
　　经过很长一段时间，许多东西都烂掉了。
　　The child woke three times during the night.
晚上孩子醒了三次。
　　We won’t stay here for long. 我们在这儿呆不长。
